The company was started in 1946 by Lester & Dorothy Summers with just a few trucks hauling sand and concrete blocks. Sons, Lester Summers, Jr. began working for the company in 1953 and J. Harold Summers joined the family business after graduating from college in 1964. The brothers bought the company from their father in 1977 and steadily increased the fleet as the need for their trucking services grew. The third generation - Rebecca Summers, John Summers and Ken Summers now own and run the company.

Over the years, Lester R. Summers Inc. has evolved from hauling block to prestressed and precast concrete, prefab steel, machinery and sand & stone for the concrete and blacktop industries. President, Rebecca Summers, believes that the company's success is credited to meeting the specific and special needs of their customers. Through this innovative approach, the family-owned company has grown to include 90-plus trucks, more than 350 trailers of various types and hauls upwards of 100 loads per day.
